My Story
My name is Alex Mutia, I am an ANCC board-certified Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I have worked in the mental health field in various capacities for nearly 25 years. I have experience in inpatient & outpatient psychiatry, emergency room, residential mental health, case management, vocational rehabilitation, research, as well as in hospital and university educational settings. I was born in Cebu City, Philippines and raised mostly in Bergen County, New Jersey. I studied Psychology and Pre-Medicine at New York University, and also received my Undergraduate and Graduate Nursing Degrees from Farleigh Dickinson University right here in NJ. I am currently affiliated with Saint Clare's Hospital system in Denville, Boonton, and Dover NJ as The Outpatient Professional Services Coordinator, a psychiatric service provider in outpatient and crisis departments, as well as providing on-call services for inpatient units. In addition, I am a member of the hospital's Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. I am also proud to be a part of the non-profit organization, Center for Assessment and Treatment, in Hackettstown NJ, which provides much deserved expert mental health care for those in need. I started my professional journey in research for the Social Psychology department at NYU. I also have a very strong background in sales and marketing. I am a Christian, but I have studied and greatly respect the beliefs of all faiths. I truly believe that every major religion stems from the core concept of just being a good person to one another. I speak English, Cebuano, and Tagalog. I speak enough Spanish for fun conversations, but not well enough for clinical assessments (sorry). I have four beautiful children and an amazing and supportive wife. I am a total foodie and champagne aficionado. I enjoy wrenching on cars and have the scars on my knuckles to prove it. I was a high school athlete, but I am a shamefully terrible golfer. And yes, of course, I love long walks on the beach.

Mission
My goal is to provide you the best care possible. We begin by examining your history, symptoms, goals, and needs. Then recommendations may be made for the appropriate psychiatric medications to be prescribed, if necessary. Through therapeutic rapport, my extensive education and experience with prescribing psychiatric medications, we will work together in finding the treatment that best fits your needs. I strongly believe in drawing from my own professional and personal life experiences to help you feel better, because you are not alone. I have experienced and understand the struggles of being a person living in this ever more difficult world. I understand being an immigrant in a new country, struggling with cultural changes; being a person with health and financial challenges; being a young to middle adult balancing education, professional and personal life, not to mention marriage and parenthood. I strongly believe that mental wellness requires a delicate balance of chemical stability, physical and emotional well-being, situational and self-awareness, and having a steady sense of cultural and spiritual identity. I am especially passionate about meeting the needs of the local Filipino/Filipino-American community in NJ. I also specialize in helping professionals regain and enhance their capabilities, whether you are a registered nurse struggling with unreasonable work loads or a C-Suite Executive struggling with the pressures of leadership, and anything in between. We are in this together! I will be your guide.
